I've Been Grieving A Long Time
We Often Hear...
I tried a grief group and it just didn't feel right for me. I've been grieving my loved one for a long time. We're hear to remind you that there is nothing wrong with feeling that way.

When you're been caregiving for a long time, you may have been experiencing grief or anticipatory grief for a long time. You may have watched your loved one's personality or ability level change. So, the feeling of loss may not be a new feeling for you. Grief support groups aren't the best fit for everyone and that is okay! If this sounds like you, these are some ideas that might be a better fit for you.

Join a Hobby or Craft Group
At our South Carolina center, many caregivers who've lost a loved one find it more helpful to join one of our wellness classes instead of a grief group. Art with Heart is an art class we offer every Thursday 10am-11am at our center. No art experience required! It's just a group of people listening to soothing music, drinking coffee or tea, and creating something easy and fun with the company of others who get it. Our wellness programs like Tai Chi or Chair Yoga are ways to do some light movement and socialize. We also have programs like Find Your Joy, our self-care exploration class. Each month we try out a new self-care activity like herb gardening, drum circles, singing bowls, music bingo, and so much more. All materials are provided. It's just a space to try something new, which is proven to be helpful not only for your brain health, but also during times when you may be feeling down.
For some getting out and socializing with others can feel really beneficial. Whether it's one of our community events, an event at your church, or in local to your town. Joining in these spaces can be a nice change of pace and help you connect to new people. There are so many free events and low cost events in the community especially for seniors, some of favorite places to check out are:

-
State museums
